This week has only just begun but it has already proven to be an exciting one. I have found my weeks flying by me and I have realized that I may just be failing to take the time to really enjoy all the good that has been coming my way. After a lovely weekend spent with my mom and sis (check the last blog for more on that!), I’ve started my last week of chem (finally), I successfully completed a much needed one day magic mini-cleanse with delicious Suja juice, got a new PAID internship (eek!), and sat in on a TV taping with my FAVORITE Top Chef contestant ever ever ever…the charming Italian chef Fabio Viviani!
Today, I began to wonder where all this good was coming from. Luck? Karma points? Or, can I give myself any credit? Ever heard the saying “good things come to those who wait?” Well, this week has shown me that that saying is just not true. Sure patience is important (it’s a virtue after all!) but answers to your problems, life changing opportunities, even success doesn’t just appear out of thin air, or at least it hasn’t for me. Taking initiative, believing in yourself, and chasing your dreams before anyone can tell you otherwise is what can perpetuate you into a place of good. I would not have been in a studio this morning, starstruck in front of my favorite chef, if I had waited, I wouldn’t have a new job, heck I probably wouldn’t have even finished the cleanse!
This day and age is one of instant gratification, a waiting game, and an impulsiveness that overrides our logic and appeals to our emotions. A longing, or better yet a need, for Instant gratification is exactly what perpetuated me into a well of extremes in regards to my diet, and is exactly what would have held me back from finding happiness in this very moment. I wanted to change my lifestyle, so I went and did it, I wanted a new job, so I went and got it. It seems simple, but this go-getter attitude is not something that many people put into practice.
The type of satisfaction that comes from actively pursuing your goals is one of substance, and it means a hell of a lot more than anything that will simply fall into your lap. When you go for your goals, you take success and a sense of accomplishment into your own hands, there is no luck or karma involved. There is nothing better than finding success and knowing you got yourself to where you want to be, because nothing else and no one can take that away from you.
