I’ve been thinking a lot about purpose. A simple word that packs a big punch. Purpose is what gives meaning to life. It’s a motivator and an instigator. Without purpose our efforts, goals, and even values lose their foundation. It’s important to define what is meaningful to us in order to determine what we want to accomplish in our work, our relationships, and our daily lives. Without taking the time to understand your own purpose it’s easy to get lost, to stray away from what brought you to your present self. Taking the time to define your purpose can, not only allow you to stay on track with your goals, it can redirect your life and focus so you can start striving for them.
When thinking about my purpose in terms of this blog and what I am striving to do, I started to sort through my core beliefs. Some I have mentioned before…I believe balance is the new black, that your kitchen should be your favorite restaurant, and of course the one I just can’t bear to leave out…a healthy lifestyle can be as sweet as candy. But I still wanted to go deeper, WHY is this important? WHY do I take the time to write a post or make my food appetizing? Is it for popularity? Is it for vanity? Is it for money? No, no, and no.
After much thought it became even more important for me to share my purpose. The joy that cooking has brought me is something I desire to share. There is no place more comforting for me than the kitchen. Food is such a connecting factor, it brings friends, families, even strangers together. For years, I have wanted to spread my cooking message, but never had the platform to do so. Although this blog began simply as a way to keep me on track with my own health and lifestyle-change goals, it has become so much more than that for me. I have always loved to cook but I have never dedicated myself to the kitchen the way I have since I began blogging.
I have said it before but to me, cooking is an invaluable skill. I sincerely believe that it’s something EVERYONE needs to learn from young age. Our society’s social constructs have plagued the ability to cook as a skill for women, and although times have drastically changed, the notion that the kitchen is a woman’s place still exists. The benefits from making your own meals have nothing to do with gender. Regardless if you are a female or male, cooking for yourself can make you healthier, save you money, even help you impress a date! It doesn’t mean everyone must be a master chef, but learning how to cook for yourself shouldn’t be an option.
Ultimately, I’m hoping to inspire people, no matter what gender or age, to get cooking! I want to encourage those who haven’t cooked that it can be easy and fun, and to motivate those who do to keep learning! I do my best to make my food look good, but when it comes down to it, most of my recipes are simple and beginner friendly. I want to inspire rather than intimidate through cooking and sharing because my message is more than just a pretty plate.
That being said, I also want to encourage those of you who follow my blog to reach out! I am more than open to any questions or suggestions! I want to make and share things that you all want to eat! I may have started this blog for me, but I’m excited to see that it been growing to be so much more than that.
