Balance is the New Black

My love of food runs deep, it’s is hands down my number one passion. When people ask me what super power I have, I usually answer with the ability to eat everything in the world whenever I want, with no guilt. I have been down paths in my own health journey that have caused me to restrict my food intake exponentially, and it always leads me (without fail) to develop an uncontrollable hunger that results in a binge, weight gain, and a lot of frustration. I made the decision to change my whole lifestyle because i was sick of yo-yo dieting, feeling uncomfortable with my body, experiencing stomach problems, and being lethargic. I think something that has freed me from the never ending cycle is to stop complicating it. I don’t need a magic pill or an overnight miracle, balance is the new black. not that it doesn’t take work…I have to be conscious of my body and its wants and needs. If I am hungry I eat, but I eat clean. When I’m tired I rest, but workout when I’m recharged. It’s a challenge and a push, but not one that has left me deprived and damaged. I don’t count calories and I don’t beat myself up if I cheat here or there, but I do feel like food an I are finally on the same team, and that is the most exciting part of all.

I put a lot of work into my new lifestyle to make it enjoyable. I choose to make healthier replications of some of my all-time favorites because I don’t end up missing them as much. I am all about making this transition easier for both me and you! Banana Bread has always been at the top of my list. By now, it should be clear that I love my oats, especially overnight oats, and so what better breakfast to satisfy my love of banana bread than an oat rendition!

Banana Bread Overnight Oats

1/3 cup rolled oats

1/3 cup almond milk

2 tbsp vanilla 0% greek yogurt

1 tbsp chia seeds

1/2 banana mashed

1 tsp vanilla

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp nutmeg

Mix all ingredients in a jar (make sure the mashed banana is evenly distributed!) Cover and let sit in fridge overnight. Top with toppings of choice in the morning!-I drizzle with honey and added fresh fruit!
