After a night out with close friends I was left feeling in need of a morning recharge. No better way to do just that than by whipping up a nice smoothie! This morning I opted for my Mint-Berry Sugarbowl topped with frozen fruit in lieu of granola.
My thought on granola are much like my thoughts on cereal. Granola starts with rolled oats, nuts, and dried fruits-so far so good…but that’t not the end of it. The oat base is then coated with a thick layer of fats and sugars caramelizing to make the oats crunchy and sweet. I find that topping my smoothies with frozen fruit instead satisfies my need for some crunch while keeping the processed sugars/carbs/fats to a minimum.
As for the mint, I decided to throw a couple of leaves in the blender because I was in need of a little refresher. The strong and refreshing aroma of mint is actually a natural way to relive headache and nausea! (and being that I’m out of advil and all…) I also threw some kale in there for a vitamin boost!
1 banana (I freeze mine for a thicker consistency)
2 handfuls mixed frozen berries (strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, blackberry)
5 mint leaves
1/3 cup kale
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
water to blend
