There is something about a nice big bowl of cereal in the morning…or three. Before I started to pay attention to what I was putting into my body, cereal was one of my go to’s for breakfast, I mean it’s not like it’s a stack of pancakes?…Or is it? the fact is, most cereals are packed with sugar, GMO’s, and synthetic vitamins and minerals that do nothing nutritionally. Nein Danke!-pardon my German. Most cereals are marketed as ‘all natural’ and ‘highly nutritious’ when it is just not true, and even if some are low in calories they leave you feeling unsatisfied and hungry. Cereal was a hard one for me to give up, believe me I tried to find options that are nutritious and delicious but I came to realize that 1) cereal just can’t be trusted and 2) the ones that can taste like cardboard. WAIT! Don’t break out the tissues yet! You can make your own cereal, it’s easy, healthy, and YUMMY! I usually start with a 1/2 cup of gluten free oats, and then add mixed nuts, dried or fresh fruits, shaved coconut, even cacao nibs! I then top it with some unsweetened almond milk and a sprinkle of cinnamon (a quick and tasty way to rev your metabolism!) There you go, a tasty (yet trustable) cereal.
